History

1938

  • foundation of the company by Emile De Schepper and his wife Ghislaine De Moor under the name « Het Rabot », situated on the Brusselsesteenweg 39 in Ghent.

  • activity: producing jenevers and liqueurs
  • some ten years later also importation and distribution of a wine assortment

1950

  • purchase of the first wine domain in France:
    Château Tour Baladoz, Appellation Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Contrôlée

1961

  • the company moves to its current location: Vogelenzang 1-4 in Ghentnt
  • the name changes into NV RABOTVINS

1964

  • purchase of a second estate in Margaux:
    Château Haut Breton Larigaudière, Appellation Margaux Contrôlée

1968 - 1970

  • Firmin and Jacques De Schepper, the two sons of Emile, gradually take up the reins of the company. Spurred by their impulse, Rabotvins specializes in the wine and aperitif branch.
  • The aperitif GODELIEVE, launched in 1958, knows a strong expansion

1984

  • a second wine based aperitif, FORTE D’ORO, is brought on the market and will be at the basis of a rapid growth in the nineties.

  • Firmin De Schepper loses his life in a tragic plane crash near Bordeaux. His brother Jacques, who until that day was only in charge of the financial management, suddenly has to assume other responsibilities too. Surrounded by a good team, he succeeds in modernizing Rabotvins and thus realizes an exceptional expansion.

1992

  • Château Tayet, Appellation Bordeaux Supérieur Contrôlée, a domain of 7 hectares in Macau (at the limit of the Margaux appellation), completes the list of estates in property.

1996

  • purchase of a second domain in Saint-Emilion, situated near Château Tour Baladoz, with an exceptional terroir: Château La Croizille, Appellation Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Contrôlée, a vineyard with partly very old vines

Sinds 1994 ...

  • renovation of the offices and expansion of the warehouses
  • Today the group consists of 3 entities:

    1. In France: the 4 wine estates, good for 40 hectares of vineyards in the most prestigious appellations of Bordeaux.
      Total annual production: on average 230 000 bottles

    2. Also in France: « G. de Mour & Fils », négociant-éleveur
      • export of the wines of own estates
      • exclusivity contracts for the selling of the total production of some thirty estates from the Bordeaux-region
      • technical assistance and follow-up from vineyard to bottle
      • ageing in oak barrels
      • commercialization of a large range of quality wines

    3. In Belgium: NV RABOTVINS
      • import, distribution and export of wines and aperitifs
      • manufacturing of aperitifs for wholesale with 2 leader brands
      • bottling of wines and aperitifs
      • exclusive distribution of top wines, aperitifs and spirits from France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Chile, New Zealand…
      • storage of 6000 hl in wine tanks
      • a warehouse of 10 000 m² 
      • up-to-date bottling unit, totally automated with a capacity of 30 000 bottles a day
