Château La Croizille, A.O.C. Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

Five hectares in size, Château La Croizille is situated in the heart of the Saint-Emilion vineyards, in the commune of Saint-Laurent-des-Combes. Planted to 70% merlot and 30% cabernet-sauvignon in a clay and limestone soil, the vines benefit from an excellent exposure.

A wine producing domain of long standing and cited as such in the first editions of “Bordeaux and its Wines” by Charles Cocks and Edouard Féret in 1868, Château La Croizille’s vineyard is of mature age, averaging 30 years.
Well appreciating this vineyard’s location and its potential to produce a wine of great quality, the De Schepper-De Moor family, already owners of a neighbouring domain for more than a half-century, purchased the property in 1996.

They immediately set to work to create the conditions necessary to produce a wine of renown. Particular attention was given to the vineyard, which benefits from special care throughout its growth period : vines pruned short, planting grass between the rows of vines, removal of eastern-facing leaves from the vines in June and western-facing ones in September, green harvesting in order to leave no more than 4 to 5 grape bunches on each vine, manual sorting of the grapes at picking in order to bring in only perfectly healthy and ripe grapes.

The vinification which follows brings out the full natural potential of grapes that have been brought to maturity. Finally, it is the quality of the individual vats that determines which proportion of the wine will be chosen to produce the first wine, or, as was the case in 1997, if the entire production will be released under the property’s second label. Such practices guarantee that the consumer will always have the very best from Château La Croizille.
