Château Tour Baladoz, A.O.C. Saint-Emilion Grand Cru
| Situated east of Saint-Emilion in the commune of Saint-Laurent-des-Combes, Château Tour Baladoz’s roots go back to the 19th century. In 1874 the property was known by the name of “Baladeau”. Several years later, in 1896, in the wake of a new decree, it appears in communal registers as “Baladoz”. It was not until 1911, when its well-known tower was constructed, that the property’s name became Tour Baladoz. The property was acquired by the De Schepper-De Moor family in 1947 (who are still the owners). |
 |
Listed as a wine producing property as early as the 1868 edition of “Bordeaux and its Wines” by Charles Cocks and Edouard Féret, here is what the authors had to say in the tenth edition of their work in 1929 : “Remarkably well-situated, Château Tour Baladoz is located on one of the highest points in the area and offers the visitor a superb panoramic view from its terraced walls. Entirely planted on a predominantly clay-limestone soil and resting on solid rock, this vineyard of approximately 5 hectares planted to the region’s finest grape varieties, produces a wine that is very generous, very aromatic, mellow, extremely fine, a balanced and perfect wine showing itself in every way as a “grand premier cru”. Its production is around 15 to 18 tonneaux”.
Seeking to ensure that the wine from this excellent terrain remains at the highest levels of quality, in 1998 the owners embarked upon major renovations in order to benefit from the finest winemaking techniques.
|
The construction of a magnificent barrel cellar, built into the solid rock, allows them to age each vintage between 12 and 18 months. The final step of bottling the wine is done at the chateau. The history of this property, the quality of the terrain, and the mastery of the entire production process from the vineyard to bottling, all ensure the grand nobility and renown of these wines. |
