Château Tayet, A.O.C. Bordeaux Supérieur

Located at the beginning of the Medoc in the commune of Macau, Château Tayet overlooks the Garonne river. Planted on the ancient marshes, the property’s ten hectares of vines benefit from an exceptional exposure, which encourages the grapes’ perfect maturity. Neighbouring Margaux, the vineyard is planted to two of the main grape varieties that produce the greatest wines of the region: merlot for 60% of the vineyard area, and cabernet-sauvignon for the remaining 40%.

Add to these traditional methods of working the vineyard and the application of modern methods in the winemaking and you have a wine that is both supple and full-bodied, known for its finesse and its elegance, capable of comparison with its neighbouring growths. Such results have left many regretting that the production of Château Tayet, which was rebaptized with this name in 1994, is not larger than it is.
The Cuvée Prestige produced by the property is aged for 12 months in oak barrels, of which 50% are renewed each year. Many are the wine tasters who have noted the great success of this wine.

Guide Hachette des Vins 1999:
“Here is a wine of soaring quality. Its purple colour shines brightly. The aroma seduces by its notes of ripe-harvested grapes, and an elegant woodiness with grilled and cinnamon nuances. Its fleshiness, dense and firm, lovingly balances the ample and precious tannins of the wood. A wine with a personality to match with haunch of venison, leg of lamb, and, in several years, cheeses.”

Revue des Vins de France, November 1997:
“Among our favourite wines. To choose a Cuvée Prestige as a favourite might appear to be obvious, but experience has so often proved such bottling to be a disappointment instead. Here, the wine’s numerous qualities are the evidence of fine winemaking know-how. The colour is deep and violet, the aroma a mixture of rich woody notes and black fruit, in the mouth the wine is ripe, fruity, balanced, with well-incorporated woodiness. In short, a very beautiful wine in Technicolor.”
