Tenuta Sant' Antonio, high quality wines from Veneto

This domain is situated near Verona and was founded by the four brothers Castagnedi, who have turned it into a model company with the most up-to-date equipment. It covers 40 ha of vineyards (half in Val d’Illasi and the other half in Val di Mezzane) on steep slopes with an extraordinary soil, partly clayish, and partly very rich in chalk with high density cultivation (+/- 8000 vines per ha). Viticulture is extremely ecological ( grassing-down and minimal use of herbicides) and aims low yield, with short pruning and green harvest.

3458 ct 6 2000 DOC Soave Superiore "Monte Ceriani"
This Soave is made with garganega (on average 80%), completed with trebbiano di soave; the vineyard is situated on steep slopes (on average 10%) of the Monte Ceriani. Manual harvest in two shifts: 80% by half September and the rest by half October when the grapes are overripe; the grapes of the last harvest then age in big oak barrels. This results in an elegant, creamy wine with a nice freshness.

6533 ct 6 1999 DOC Valpolicella Superiore "Monti Garbi"
The vineyards (70% corvina, 20% rondinella en 10% croatina et.al.) of this Valpolicella are situated on the calcareous hills of the Monti Garbi (“poor, rough mountains”). This wine offers nice, pure fruity flavours and gains in complexity when a small amount of Amarone is added and by ageing in oak barrels (1/3 new).

6534 ct 6 1998 DOC Valpolicella Superiore "La Bandina"
The grapes for La Bandina (same grape varieties as for Monti Garbi) come from especially selected parcels and are then dried in a ventilated place for about a month. This is followed by a long winemaking and ageing period of 30 months in new oak barrels. It is a superior wine with a very large concentration and power.

6535 ct 6 1998 DOC Amarone della Valpolicella "Campo dei Gigli"
After repeated pruning of the grapes (same varieties as Monti Garbi) only a few grapes remain on the grapevine for production. These grapes are dried during 4 months in a ventilated room (appassimento technique). Then follows a meticulously controlled long winemaking and 3 years of ageing in new Slovenian oak barrels of 350 litres. It is a grandiose wine which reduces one to silence.
